Tennis elbow exercise

Tennis elbow is often caused by overuse or repetitive strain caused by repeated extension (bending back) of the wrist against resistance.

This may be from activities such as tennis, badminton or squash but is also common after periods of excessive wrist use in day-to-day life.

Tennis elbow affects 1% to 3% of the population overall and as many as 50% of tennis players during their careers. Less than 5% of all tennis elbow diagnoses are related to actually playing tennis.

Tennis elbow affects men more than women. It most often affects people between the ages of 30 and 50, although people of any age can be affected.

How to read Food Labels ?

Do you read the Nutrition Facts food labels when you shop? Since 1994, the FDA has required these labels to be placed on most food packaging. The Nutrition Facts food labels are easy to find on the back, side or bottom of the packaging.

The black and white Nutrition Facts labels may be formatted vertically or horizontally (the vertical version is more common). Small packages may have an abbreviated version of the label.

For example, this is a food label like one that you would see on a can of condensed chicken noodle soup. It looks like a lot of information to understand all at once, so let's look at the Nutrition Facts food label one section at a time.

How To Cure Bad Breath ?

In 80 to 90 % of cases, it's due to something in the mouth. Most often, it's nothing more serious than a dirty mouth.

Plaque
, the nearly invisible film of bacteria that's constantly forming in your mouth, is often responsible for bad breath. Other dental culprits include cavities and gum disease.

Occasionally, bad breath is due to something in the lungs or gastrointestinal tract or to a systemic (bodywide) infection.

However, eating a garlicky meal is one of the most common causes.

The strong odors of foods such as garlic, onions and alcohol are carried through the bloodstream and exhaled by the lungs. Another big loser when it comes to bad breath is tobacco.

Electric cigarette

According to the World Health Orgnaisation (WHO) 20% of the worldwide population are smokers.
The legal environment in Europe is limiting the places where one can smoke in public.
More and more public places, like airports, railway stations, restaurants, and the workplace, have established or become no-smoking zones. Smokers often have to remain "outside".
Electric cigarette by
RUYAN products offer enjoyment without harmful substances.
Not only that, we bring smokers and non-smokers back together again -- wherever smoking has been forbidden -- no passive smoking for family members, and your immediate.
"Healthier" smoking is quite simple: Inside of each RUYAN product, you will find an electric vaporizer soaked in nicotine (four different nicotine strengths to choose from -- high, med, low, no).

Herpes Cure

One of the reasons that herpes infections are difficult to treat effectively is that the virus hides in the cells of the nervous system between outbreaks.

During these times, when the infection is latnet , the virus becomes effectively invisible to drugs and the immune system.

During active infections, some of the hidden virus "wakes up" to do its dirty work, but while any virus remains hidden it's impossible for treatment to lead to a full cure.

Quit Smoking with Herbal products

Approximately 4000 chemical substances have been identified in cigarette smoke, about 400 of them are harmful to the human body, more than 40 of them may cause cancers.

Herbal therapies to quit smoking are not restricted with herbal smoking or herbal drugs or gadgets.
There is another important therapy namely herbal tea. Herbal tea works differently when compared with other therapies. Herbal tea gradually reduces your urge for smoking and at one point of time makes you feel that cigarettes are not worth it.

Herbal tea consists of lot of natural substance that keeps you fresh and strengthens your nerves. They also fight against the harmful elements injected into the body as a result of cigarette smoking.

Besides they also remove the poisonous chemicals deposited in the body through smoking. This also helps you to overcome respiratory problems caused by smoking. It is very easy to convince smokers to consume herbal teas because by and large any smoker has the habit of taking tea.

Laser Eye Surgery - Is it healthy ??

People need to wear glasses for different reasons. Some people are said to be short-sighted or myopic. This is due to the cornea being too steeply curved or the eye longer than normal.

Therefore, light rays fall in short of the retina - the area at the back of the eye that interprets the image - and results in blurred distance vision.

Other people are long-sighted or hyperopic because their cornea is too flat or the eye is too short. This means that the light rays focus too far beyond the retina.

Others have a condition where the cornea is oval shaped rather than spherical, called astigmatism. This produces two different focal points which can blur images at all distances.

Laser surgery to reshape the cornea can help to correct these problems.

Complications occur in less than 5% of cases, according to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Some people have a problem with dry eyes in the months after surgery and artificial tear supplements might be needed in the long term.

Many patients have experienced glare or halo effects when night driving, particularly just after treatment. This is more likely the higher the correction that has been made, but is rarely severe.

In rare cases, excessive thinning of the eye wall can cause the shape of the eye to be unstable after treatment. Severe loss of vision is very unusual, but some patients could require corneal surgery or hard contact lenses to restore vision, it said.

Eggs - healthy or not?

Eggs are in the news again. Is it good news this time or bad news?

Well--it's both.

Yet again, eggs are confusing us all by being nutritious, but associated with certain health risks.

According to recent studies, the news looks good if you're a woman trying to avoid breast cancer; not quite so good if you're a middle aged man who eats more than one a day.

I grew up with the idea that eggs were a healthy way to get protein for breakfast.

Then came the news they had Bad Cholesterol, and many health-conscious folks like me started to avoid them.

Then researchers figured out that the cholesterol in the eggs wasn't all that problematic, and eggs started to look like a great convenient choice again.

I probably eat about 7 eggs a week myself, the kind with a bit of an Omega-3 boost, and don't plan to stop.

Tobacco is generally consumed as cigarettes, and also as a cigar.

We know that smoking is dangerous and bad for our health.
In England, smoking is one habit that causes premature death for age group below 65.

Tobacco in cigarettes contains many destructive substances for health, such as: tar, carbon monoxide, and nicotine.

Tar can harm the respiratory tract, carbon monoxide attach itself to red blood cells and reduce its ability to carry oxygen, while nicotine can cause an addiction.
Cigarette’s smoke also contains substances that cause cancer; it can damage the lungs and other organs.

Health damages caused by cigarette’s smoke:

1. Smoke can hurt eyes, nose, and larynx
2. Asthma and allergy
3. Babies born from mothers that smoke tend to be smaller than average and the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
4. Mouth and tongue cancer can be caused by cigarette’s smoke.
5. Pharynx and larynx cancer
6. Breath channel to the lungs is interrupted by smoke.
In the long term can cause a deviation such as lung cancer and emphysema.
7. Cardiovascular disease risk increased because of cigarette’s smoke

Paraffin - Removing body hair

Here you cam find tips and techniques on how to give an at home removal and wax treatment for body hair removal...

Paraffin wax treatment is a luxurious spa service intended to moisturize and soften the skin.

This is often applied to the hands and feet as components of manicures and pedicures respectively.

Just as I thought that the wax used is same wax ingredient for candles or hair removal, paraffin wax is a variant that is more viscous and bonds to the skin.

Paraffin wax is softer compared to the above mentioned.

This wax contains paraffin oil. And since it is soft, it melts at a lower temperature.

Thus, the skin can be submerged without the fear of burning or blistering.

How to Prevent HPV

The only true method of protecting yourself against HPV is to abstain from all sexual activity.
This includes any sexual contact and is not limited to interourse.

Because abstinence is not realistic for most adults, other means of protection must be used to reduce the risk of developing HPV.

There is no cure for HPV, though the virus often goes away on its own without medical treatment.

Limit the amount of sexual partners you have in your lifetime.
The more sexual partners you have, the increased risk of contracting HPV.
Remember, HPV is very common and it is estimated that 80 percent of people will be infected with HPV at some time during their lives.

Dealing with Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a health problem characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and multiple tender points that occurs in precise, localized areas, particularly in the neck, spine, shoulders, and hips; also may cause sleep disturbances, morning stiffness, irritated bowel, anxiety, and other symptoms.

Fibromyalgia can involve other over lapping conditions: fatigue, yeast, gut health issues, body weight abnormalities.

The fundamental cause of fibromyalgia is an out of balance immune system, lack of energy and oxygen to the cells and a build of toxins in the body (and the subsequent pH imbalance).
In mainstream medicine the only form of treatment are immune suppressive medications and often prozac type drugs for the depression and anxiety issues that are often a part of the symptomatic picture.

What causes the pain and other symptoms in fibromyalgia is unknown from a mainstream medical point of view.

Treatment for Motor Neuron Disease

There is no cure or standard treatment for the MNDs.
Symptomatic and supportive treatment can help patients be more comfortable while maintaining their quality of life.
The drug riluzole (Rilutek®), which as of this date is the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ALS, prolongs life by 2-3 months but does not relieve symptoms. Other medicines that may help reduce symptoms include muscle relaxants such as baclofen, tizanidine, and the benzodiazepines for spasticity; glycopyrrolate and atropine to reduce the flow of saliva; quinine or phenytoin for cramps; anticonvulsants and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve pain; tranquilizers to help with sleeping problems; antidepressants; and botulinum toxin, amitriptyline, and other anticholinergic drugs to control drooling.
Some patients may require stronger medicines such as morphine to cope with musculoskeletal abnormalities or pain in later stages of the disorders, and opiates are used to provide comfort care in terminal stages of the disease.

How our Stem Cells Can Fix our Hear t!

One of the factors affecting in the slow progress of finding a
cure for Stargardt?s is the nature of the gene responsible for this
retinal disease. Some people with the gene never develop the disease,
while others seem to develop it without the gene. Environmental and
unknown factors play a role as well.

In the future, when a patient manifests a genetic defect, doctors
hope to be able to correct it and resolve the problems it causes. Gene
therapy involves inserting a functioning gene into human cells to
correct a genetic error or to introduce a new function to the cells.
The surgeon must transplant genes rather than cells, a strategy which
miniaturizes the process by a million fold. The surgical tools are not
hand-held instruments, but trained viruses. At the 1998 conference of
the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, a report
presented just such a technique for retinitis pigmentosa (RP), another
retinal degenerative disease. Researchers showed that a virus called
Lenti could carry a new gene into mouse photoreceptors and could
prevent the photoreceptors from degenerating for six months in a mouse
model of recessive RP. That's a long time for a mouse! In another
experiment, an adenovirus was used to deliver a gene designed to
prevent the expression of an abnormal dominant gene for RP. Thus, it
appears that both dominant and recessive forms of RP are amenable to
gene therapy -- at least in mice! Before we can begin human trials of
gene therapy for retinal degenerations, the long term effects of these
viruses, including rejection, must be better understood. Like
transplantation, this approach requires delicate subretinal surgery to
place the virus near the photoreceptors and the RPE.

Bee Sting Therapy

Bee venom therapy is the part of apitherapy which utilizes bee venom in the treatment of health conditions.

Apitherapy is the use of beehive products, including honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom.

It has been used since ancient times to treat arthritis, rheumatism, back pain, skin diseases and in this modern age as an alternative therapy to treat multiple sclerosis, Lyme disease and chronic fatigue syndrome. Bee venom comes from the stingers of honey bees who use it in defense of the bee colony.

Bee venom is a rich source of enzymes, peptides and biogenic amines. There are at least 18 active components in the venom which have some pharmaceutical properties. The effect mechanism of the venom is not entirely know yet.

Scientists believe it can modify the way the immune system functions in the body and contribute to increased cortisol production.

Traditionally, bee venom was administered with live bees by stimulating them to sting in the affected area, trigger points or acupuncture points.

Depending on the nature of the disease, the standardized venom can be used in a cream, liniment, ointment or injection form.

Bee venom is most effective when it comes directly from the live bee during the late spring to early fall season when bees have a good pollen source to produce potent venom.

Their venom during the winter period is less potent. Next to the effect of a live bee, injectable venom solution is considered to be a standard method to administer bee venom.

Venom solution is prepared from pure bee venom (Apis Venenum Purum) and is a homeopathic preparation. It is administered intradermally just between the skin layers or subcutaneously under the skin to imitate the effect of a bee sting.

Each injection is equivalent to or is less than the average dry venom sac content of a honey bee. Bee venom is also used topically in creams, liniments and ointments.

The application of venom solution with electrophoresis or ultrasonophoresis is practiced in Europe and China.

Tips for neck ache pain

Stretching also is a good relaxer for sore muscles. Carefully bend head to right and hold for ten seconds, then roll gently, head forward, then to left.

Then shrug shoulders, hold for a few seconds and then release. Repeat if needed. Go slowly and don't force head to shoulders, only go as comfortably as you feel.

A couple tips on how to prevent neck pain are simple basic ones but ones most people ignore. When using the phone, do not cradle the receiver between shoulder and ear.

Consider trying a hands-free headset if phone usage is large.

When sleeping do not sleep on stomach, instead lie on side with knees bent, this is also good for back problems.

On long car rides, place a pillow behind the neck for support. Also the simply purchase of buying a good sturdy pillow that shapes to posture is one of the best and most easiest prevention for neck pains.

Children on Speed

Amphetamines have had a relatively short, though chequered history.

From their use in wartime, their abuse by the beat generation, up to the popularity of Ecstasy in the late 20th century, many have found amphetamines an enjoyable, though unpredictable, stimulant.

More than that though, amphetamine-based treatments have been found to have beneficial effects for those suffering from attention deficit disorders, and are now widely prescribed in the US and elsewhere as a treatment for children and adults.

What is the truth behind these medical claims? What are the real effects of stimulants like Ecstasy? Just how harmful are amphetamines?

In this book, a leading authority on psychoactive drugs explores the uses and abuses of amphetamines.

Starting with a look at the origins of amphetamines, their use in wartime, their use by poets, musicians - even a President of the US, it presents a fascinating and accessible account of amphetamine use.

It examines the evidence for the claims that drugs like Ecstasy kill, and considers the widespread use of amphetamines for ADHD, presenting a thorough account based on science and fact, rather than dogma.

Herbs Against Cancer

More than 120 herbs and traditional medicines will eventually be evaluated by Campbell’s team and others at UCSF.

16 of the herbs tested so far have been deemed “highly active” against breast cancer cell growth.

Among these, rz rhei, a Chinese Rhubarb root, was especially promising in laboratory tests.

Other herbs that showed significant anti-cancer activity in laboratory tests included ban zhi lian, zhi mu, and wang bu liu xing.

These may be the focus of future clinical trials in human breast cancer
and other patients.

Americans are turning more and more often to herbal remedies as a natural alternative to drugs.

But before you head off to the health food store for that bottle of St. John's wort or kava kava, you should know that natural does not necessarily mean safer.

In fact, evidence is mounting that some of the most popular herbs can have serious side effects.

Hypothermia - Fever Therapy for Cancer

A type of treatment in which body tissue is exposed to high temperatures to damage and kill cancer cells, or in the case of conventional therapy, to make cancer cells more sensitive to the effects of radiation and certain anticancer drugs.

Local hyperthermia treatment (heat applied to a very small area, such as a tumor) is a well-established cancer treatment method with a simple basic principle: If a rise in temperature to 106÷F can be obtained for one hour within a cancer tumor, the cancer cells will be destroyed.
The area may be heated externally with high-frequency waves aimed at a tumor from a device outside the body.

Ultrasound is more easily focused than other energy modalities, and can be applied to tumors located from the skin to 8 centimeters (approx. 3 in.) within the body.

This allows the treatment of tumors unreachable by other external modalities.

Whole-body heating is used to treat metastatic cancer that has spread throughout the body.
It can be accomplished using warm-water blankets, hot wax, inductive coils (like those in electric blankets), or thermal chambers (similar to large incubators).

How to Get Rid of Plaque

Plaque is made up of invisible masses of harmful germs that live in the mouth and stick to the teeth.
  • Some types of plaque cause tooth decay
  • Other types of plaque cause gum disease
bleeding gums can be the first signs of gum disease.

If gum disease is not treated, the tissues holding the teeth in place are destroyed and the teeth are eventually lost.

Dental plaque is difficult to see unless it’s stained.

You can stain plaque by chewing red “disclosing tablets,” found at grocery stores and drug stores, or by using a cotton swab to smear green food coloring on your teeth.

The red or green color left on the teeth will show you where there is still plaque—and where you have to brush again to remove it.

Parsley For Your Skin

Parsley contains a high concentration of vitamin C, iron and is a good source of manganese. It also contains calcium and is a great source of potassium.

The benefits these vitamins and minerals have on your skin is well know.

Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant and in conjunction with protein, is necessary for the production of collagen - the glue that holds us and our skin together and circumvents sags or wrinkles.

It regulates sebaceous glands to keep skin from drying out; helps prevent facial lines, wrinkles and spider veins.

The use of Parsley is not restricted to culinary applications. Sure, parsley is a common ingredient in sauces, soups, rissoles, mince and salads, etc., however, parsley also has medicinal applications.

Herbalists may choose to use parsley in their treatment approach to dysmenorrhoea, amenorrhoea, as a diuretic, anti-flatulent and/or to stimulate appetite.

Other constituents found in Parsley The essential oil comprising apiol, apiolin, myristicin, pinene. In addition to the ingredients listed earlier, parsley also contains flavonoids, a glucoside, apiin, and pro-vitamin A.

can Mint prevent stomach ache ?

Mint can help get rid of nausua, motionsickness!
I think mint calms the stomach, and so does ginger, and black licorice.

My favorite natural mint tea is actually made by a brand that you can probably find in most grocery stores that carry a lot of teas.

It’s by Traditional Medicinal, a brand that has branched out beyond it’s typical natural foods store markets.

It’s organically grown and the only ingredient in it is all natural mint leaves, which is ideal to help soothe an upset or sour stomach and help aid the digestion process.

Mint also is a green leaf food, which means it contains chlorophyll, another excellent nutrient that helps feed and nourish the body’s cells, although since it is a tea and it’s heated the effects of the chlorophyll may be diminished.

Genetics food allergy

Allergic reactions to foods are an important medical problem throughout the industrialized world. The occurrence of food allergy appears to be strongly influenced by genetics, but the basis of the genetic predisposition to food allergy has not been differentiated from that for atopy in general.

In addition, genetic susceptibility alone does not explain the prevalence of food allergy satisfactorily, leaving ample room to consider the importance of environmental influences (external, maternal, and gastrointestinal environment) and interactions between the host and the environment.

Several features of food allergy are highlighted in this review:
1) patients with severe food allergies are overwhelmingly atopic, but food allergy occurs only in approximately 10% of patients with other atopic diseases;
2) most patients are clinically reactive to a single food, and although a substantial minority have multiple food allergies, the variety of bonefide food allergies in a given individual is limited;
3) foods contain multiple proteins whereas only a small subset are allergenic;
4) there is likely an important contribution of the environment, becoming manifest in genetically susceptible individuals.

Coffe - Is it good for our health ???

For many of us the day does not begin until we have enjoyed our first cup of coffee.

We know it helps increase our energy and alertness, but there is increasing scientific evidence to show that coffee may also help provide significant protection against the development of liver disease.

  • In this post we'll try to show how coffee drinking specifically could be protective against:
Cirrhosis of the liver (a disease causing progressive damage and scarring of the liver tissue and function)

  • Gallbladder disease - by reducing the risk of gallstone formation.

  • An increase of liver enzyme activity.
A high liver enzyme activity is a recognised indicator that there has been deterioration in the functioning of liver cells and possible development of disease in the liver.

More recent studies confirmed the findings that it is specifically coffee, but not other beverages containing caffeine, that may be the key factor in inhibiting the onset of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver.

In another large study, results showed that men who regularly drank two to three cups of coffee per day – filtered, instant or espresso - had about a 30-40% reduction in risk of gallstone disease.

For men who drank four cups per day, the reduction was even more significant – the risk was cut in half.

Other study results have demonstrated a similar positive effect in women.

We cannot live without a functioning liver – so here is some good news – that cup of coffee we all enjoy is not bad for us at all.

In moderation, drinking coffee not only helps increase our energy and alertness but may also be helping to keep our liver healthy.

Brown fat - New kid n the block !!!

Currently, the only safe way to activate brown fat is to stay cold , however, the only safe way to activate brown fat is to remain cold enough to be on the verge of shivering… for a long period of time.

This recreates the scenario that led to the evolution of brown fat: life-threatening cold in creatures that couldn’t put on clothes to stay warm.

It’s important to maintain a proper balance of brown fat in the body.

If you’re carrying too much or too little weight, not only are the calorie-burning benefits mostly negated, but you become more vulnerable to diseases such as Type 2 diabetes.

Generally, a lean form is most ideal to maintain the body’s energy balance, yet according to Brown, it is unclear whether brown fat is the cause of leanness or its result.

Food poisoning

food poisoning is caused by consuming food contaminated with pathogenic bacteria, toxins, viruses, prions or parasites.

Such contamination usually arises from improper handling, preparation or storage of food.

Food borne illness can also be caused by adding pesticides or medicines to food, or consuming or by accidentally consuming naturally poisonous substances like poisonous mushrooms or reef fish.

Contact between food and pests, especially flies, rodents and cockroaches, is a further cause of contamination of food.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is a term used for a group of skin conditions having several things in common: dryness, itching, inflammation and thickening of skin, and recurrence.

What Causes It?
Nobody knows exactly why some people are affected by these rashes and others with the same exposure aren’t.

Those with atopic dermatitis often have non-skin allergies (like hay fever and asthma) but their rashes aren’t caused by skin allergies.

On the other hand, those with contact dermatitis do have true skin allergies, but usually not other allergic problems like someone with atopic dermatitis.

Contact dermatitis occurs at all ages, whereas atopic dermatitis is most often a problem in kids. Hand dermatitis is caused by skin irritants such as detergents or chemicals.

Dry (chapped) skin occurs because of lack of water in the stratum corneum (see diagram).

If your skin surface doesn’t have enough oil, there’s more evaporation of water which contributes to the dryness.

Red dots on my skin...

Over the past year, I have been getting red dots on my skin.
They are not raised and not itchy --> but they are bright red and increasing in number.

They are mainly on my upper arms and chest, but I do have some on my thighs, lower arms, and neck.

I went to a dermatologist who said that they were nothing to worry about and no one knew the cause. I am nervous about this diagnosis because these red dots just keep coming!

Someone suggested that it could be a problem with my blood. I found a couple of articles on it -- but I am hoping that people here can share their personal experiences and advice with me.

I'm going to my doctor soon to get a referral to a hematologist... but in the meantime, I can't help but wonder what could be wrong with me and how they will diagnose it!

Thanks for sharing any experience or advice.

What happens when we sneeze ?

We sneeze to get rid of things in your body, ie dust in our nose.

But the reason people say God bless you is because in the middle ages they thought that a demon was being expelled from your body when you sneeze.

We also sneeze whenever dust gets inside your nose and irritates the tiny hairs in your nostrils, so sneezing is the only way for the body to get it out.

Psoriasis - Skin disorder

Physicians usually diagnose psoriasis by visual inspection.

This involves the information of the skin, scalp, fingernails and toenails for reddening or scaling skin that is characteristic of psoriasis.

Small pits on the fingernails are also signs of psoriasis.

A skin biopsy, or scraping and culture of skin patches, may be needed to rule out other disorders.

In psoriasis, the examination will usually show proliferation of dry skin cells, but may not show signs of inflammation. Changes in the nails are often strong indicators of psoriasis.

If joint pain is present, an x-ray may be used to check for psoriatic arthritis.
